Before Bruce Dickinson, before Number of the Beast, before private planes and towering Eddie monoliths, before Iron Maiden the brand, it was just Iron Maiden, the hard-charging, piss-taking, game-changing band from East London. That Maiden — led by founding bassist Steve Harris and gritty singer Paul Di'Anno — stormed onto the scene with their 1980 debut, which helped set the blueprint for the New Wave of British Heavy Metal sound with live staples like "Running Free," "Sanctuary" and, of course, the ripping title track.
