Blue Öyster Cult’s 1972 is by no means their most popular album, nor does it include any of the hard-rock group’s heaviest songs, but it certainly deserves to be mentioned alongside all of the aforementioned records for its acute influence on the shape of metal to come. Listen to the minor-key intro riff on "Transmaniacon MC" and you’ll never hear a Slayer song the same way again. Plus, can you think of a more metal song title than “Cities on Flame with Rock and Roll?”
